I build software, run a company, and play some instruments.

Father of three
I'm Paulo, or pcmnac for short: Paulo César Moura Nunes Américo Coutinho. I'm from Carpina, in Pernambuco, Brazil, and today I live in Torres Vedras, Portugal. I have three kids: Elís, Teo and Mel. I've worked as a software engineer since 2005. I founded DSPLAY, a digital signage company, and I'm its CTO, and I also work as a Senior Software Engineer at Daltix, a retail data company.
The path
From device drivers to AI agents
I started in 2005 at C.E.S.A.R, in Recife, writing embedded and device software. After about eight years of large Java systems at MV Sistemas and SERPRO, I founded DSPLAY in 2012 and have led its technology ever since. Since 2019 I'm also a senior engineer at Daltix. These days I build with AI coding agents: I set the rules and the architecture, review what they write and decide what ships.
Founder & CTO
DSPLAY
A digital signage platform: a dashboard where customers manage their content, and the players that show it on screens in shops, restaurants, hotels and offices. I started it, and I'm still the one who decides how it's built.
I love listening as much as playing, and I like many styles, but MPB, pop rock, rock and samba are among my favorites.
None of it for a living. My YouTube channel exists to keep songs that are hard to find elsewhere, for people who also play: Lenine more than anyone, plus Caetano Veloso, Iza and others. On guitar it's mostly fingerstyle, from Luiz Gonzaga and Sandy & Junior to Creedence and Coldplay. The takes aren't perfect. They're a memory aid.
About forty public repositories, mostly JavaScript and TypeScript, with detours into serverless, GraphQL, React, Go and Java. Some are experiments, some are forks, some are small tools.
Movies: The Silence of the Lambs and its related films, the Millennium trilogy, Jurassic Park and Jurassic World, Jaws, the Avengers movies, among others.
Series: Criminal Minds, 24, The X-Files, The Killing and The Punisher, but also comedies like The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men, among others.
Anime: Dragon Ball, One Piece and Bleach.
Up my sleeve
Magic
I loved watching magicians on TV and trying to work out how they did it. At school and with friends, I did card tricks myself.
David Copperfield and David Blaine are among my inspirations.
Animals
Pitoco, Mingau and the wild ones
I have a cat, Pitoco, and a hamster, Mingau, and a puppy is in the plans. I like sharks, lions, tigers and wild animals in general. A safari in Africa and seeing a great white shark are on my list.
Home
Carpina to Torres Vedras
From Carpina, in Pernambuco, Brazil. Living in Torres Vedras, in the Lisbon region of Portugal. Father of three.
On the plate
Pizza and Vinho Verde
A pizza lover. My favorites are shrimp and the spicy ones, like pepperoni and diavola. I also like Vinho Verde, the Portuguese wine from the north of the country.
In motion
Muay Thai and the gym
Muay Thai five times a week and the gym every weekday morning. Weekends are for resting. And a (heated) pool beats the beach, any day. I also like some extreme sports, such as skydiving.
Giving back
I donate blood
My late wife had leukemia and needed transfusions every week, so I know first-hand what a donation means. Giving blood is a simple act that literally saves lives. If you can, please do it.
Controller in hand
Games
I played more in the past. The ones that stayed with me: Super Mario, from the Super Nintendo to the Switch, and Donkey Kong, plus Resident Evil 1 and, above all, 2.
Where I stand
Left and progressive
I'm on the left and I'm progressive: I'm for what's best for the people, not for big corporations and the super-rich. I support social programs and a better distribution of income and wealth. Bolsonarism is a sickness, and so is fascism.
